In a major relief to central government employees, the Union Cabinet has approved the 8th Pay Commission. Central employees and pensioners had been eagerly waiting for this decision for a long time. Employee unions had also increased pressure on the government regarding the formation of the new commission. Meanwhile, the government will soon constitute a committee to begin the process of preparing the 8th Pay Commission, announced Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The 8th Pay Commission will be implemented from 2026, leading to a significant increase in salaries for central government employees next year.
A meeting of the Union Cabinet was held today at the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where the approval for the 8th Pay Commission was granted. Earlier, central employee unions had met the Cabinet Secretary demanding the formation of the commission and had intensified pressure on the government. The 8th Pay Commission will now come into effect from 2026.
Fitment Factor for Salary Increase
The fitment factor plays a crucial role in determining salary revisions under a Pay Commission. It is the basis on which the revised basic pay of government employees is calculated. Under the 7th Pay Commission, the approved fitment factor was 2.57. For the 8th Pay Commission, the expected fitment factor is likely to range between 2.86 and 3.00, which could result in a substantial increase in salaries.But in this calculator we used 1.86 as minimum of all speculations.
